Where We Are

ULI is a place where regional, national and international leaders come to grow professionally and personally.

Most members participate in the 65 district councils, active in the U.S. metropolitan areas, Europe and Asia. District councils offer a variety of learning, networking and community outreach opportunities closer to home.

ULI is headquartered in Washington, D.C., with offices in Hong Kong and London. More than 100 professional staff and a network of district councils serve our members worldwide.

Americas
Born in 1936, during the Great Depression, the Urban Land Institute had original objectives that were very similar to its guiding principles today. These early objectives were: to study and interpret real estate trends; to examine principles through which private enterprise could effectively develop real estate; to develop a body of knowledge in real estate and allied subjects; to publish informative texts and technical journals based on that knowledge; and to act as a statistical clearinghouse for the dissemination of real estate data. The Institute’s continuing focus on nonpartisan research and education has made it one of the world’s most respected and quoted organizations in urban planning, land use, and development. ULI membership has grown from 230 members at its start to more than 40,000 professionals in 50 states. Through the direction and support of its members, the Institute is well positioned to provide responsible leadership in the use of land.

Asia
To be a global organisation and to fulfill its mission, ULI must have a strong presence in Asia. The opportunity to assist with challenges presented by the region’s rapid urbanisation, the potential of significant growth in membership and influence for the Institute, and the committed support of ULI’s Asia leadership combine to make it the right time for ULI’s investment in Asia.

Europe
The European office in London aims to bring ULI's mission to the real estate professionals throughout Europe.  Eleven professionals based in London and two in Frankfurt support the Institute's program of work.  Europe has an active National and European council progamme, in addition to conceptualization and initialization of innovatice new tools such as the ULI LessEN initiative and the ULI Urban Investment Network.
