Rose Center 2011-2012 City Study Visits
The Rose Center assembles a panel of experts to visit each fellowship city to learn about their land use challenge and advise their fellowship team. Each panel is co-chaired by two Rose Center faculty assigned to work with the city over the fellowship year. Each non-mayor fellow also serves as a panelist on another city’s study visit to encourage peer-to-peer learning. Additional panelists include Rose Center advisory board members and other subject matter experts. The panel delivers a presentation summarizing their initial observations and recommendations and gives the host fellows homework assignments on which they are to report their progress at the fellowship retreat in April. The faculty co-chairs return for a follow-up visit over the summer.

ULI Rose Center Mayors' Forum on Building 21st Century Cities from ULI Rose Center on Vimeo.
A panel of five current and alumni Daniel Rose Fellowship mayors discussed how they are strategically using land use planning and economic development initiatives to improve the quality of life they can offer residents and businesses to be competitive in the fiscally challenging global economy of the 21st Century at the ULI Fall Meeting in Los Angeles on October 27, 2011. The panel included current Rose Fellows Bob Buckhorn, mayor of Tampa; Angel Taveras, mayor of Providence; and Sly James, mayor of Kansas City (all in their first year in office); and alumni Rose Fellows Dave Bing, mayor of Detroit; and Karl Dean, mayor of Nashville. It was moderated by Rose Center Advisory Board member Glenda Hood, formerly mayor of Orlando and Florida secretary of state. Watch the video or read a summary on

Rose Center Names 2011-2012 Fellows
The ULI Daniel Rose Center for Public Leadership in October 2011 named the mayors of Kansas City, Oakland, Providence, and Tampa (photo above: left to right) to its 2011-2012 Class of Daniel Rose Fellows. Each mayor is leading a team of three additional fellows from their respective cities. Through the fall of 2012, each city's team will work with Rose Center faculty, advisory board, staff and ULI experts on complex land-use challenges facing their communities. The fellows will also visit other cities to meet with public and private leaders and tour innovative projects as part of the fellowship’s professional development and leadership programming.
