ULI is the think tank of the real estate development world, promoting an open exchange of information, including mistakes made and lessons learned. To create a safe forum in which to exchange ideas and disseminate information or knowledge on practices, ULI and its members demand a mutual respect for privacy, strict confidentiality of proprietary information, and copyright protection.
Our promise to you
ULI will not obtain personally identifying information about you when you visit its website at www.uli.org, unless you affirmatively choose to provide such information.
What information is collected about me when I visit www.uli.org? How is it used?
When you visit our site, we automatically collect and store only the following information about you, none of which is personally identifiable:
Your host name or IP address
The domain from which you access our site
The day, month, and year you access our site.
We use this information to calculate the number of visitors to the different sections of our site, and to help us make our site more useful to future visitors. We do not sell or transfer to third parties any of the information collected automatically from every visitor.
What about “cookies”?
If you browse the site with the cookies option turned off, you will not be able to use the membership directory, archives, subscription services, or other features in the secure members-only area.
How secure is my credit card information?
When you order from ULI (ULI Bookstore), we need your name, e-mail address, shipping address, and credit card number/expiration date. We use this information to process and send your order and shipping confirmations. We do not use these data for any other purpose.
Our secure server software (SSL) is the industry standard and among the best software available today for secure commerce transactions. It encrypts all your personal information, including credit card number, name, and address, so that it cannot be read as the information travels over the internet.
ULI is fully committed to data security. To prevent unauthorized access, maintain data accuracy, and ensure the appropriate use of information, we have put in place physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information you provide to us online.
Are my responses to ULI surveys confidential?
ULI conducts surveys to create annual studies, as well as to elicit feedback from members on programs, privileges, and benefits. Every survey, unless specifically noted, is strictly confidential, and the final tallied results when published or presented never identify sources. ULI surveys by mail, fax, phone, and online; participation is always optional. At times, ULI will use the results of surveys to measure member satisfaction and demographics to enhance the overall membership experience.
How will my e-mail address be used?
Your e-mail address will be used for communications from ULI to help manage your membership and all other communications. You can opt out of receiving these communications through the E-mail Preferences settings at MyULI.
How do I opt out of e-mail communications?
You can decline to receive e-mail notifications. Although most members tell us they appreciate receiving notice of these opportunities, we recognize the importance of providing you with choices. At any time, you may ask that these offers be discontinued by simply replying to the e-mail and informing us of your preferences. All e-mail offers that you receive from ULI will tell you how to decline further e-mail communications. If you continue to receive e-mail communications after you have unsubscribed, please contact us directly at email@example.com or call toll free 800-321-5011 and tell us which e-mail communications you do not wish to receive.
Who else has access to my member record?
District council and council chairs have access to listings of members of their groups via the internet. ULI limits access and the type of information about members through the secure Members Only section at ULI’s website, the published ULI Executive Directory, and to ULI employees responsible for conducting business with our members. We recognize the responsibility that comes with handling information and apply security measures to safeguard information about our members.
Are there any restrictions on members’ use of the directory?
Yes. Members are prohibited from using any directory listing for commercial or promotional purposes. Directory listings are provided to foster personal communication between two members, not for mass mailings or spam (unsolicited e-mail). The secure Members Only section requires members to enter individual logon ID (membership number) and their password (last name) for access to this area. To that extent, ULI terms and agreements require members to adhere to ULI’s strict policy not to share their personal access information with anyone, including coworkers and associates. Member information is not available in list or data download format.
Each fall, ULI prints the ULI Executive Directory listing all current full members. This reference tool is available only to ULI full members, ULI staff, and affiliates (i.e., districts council, consultants) and is not made available to any third-party organizations or individuals.
How do I change my contact information? Bio?
You may update or change information related to you by accessing your membership profile in the Members Only area of the ULI website with your logon ID (membership number) and password (last name). For other questions related to updating or changing your membership information, please send an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org or call 800-321-5011.
Does ULI sell its mailing list?
No. ULI will exchange mailing lists with carefully screened organizations to ensure that members have the widest knowledge of available opportunities for continuing education, conferences, conventions, meetings, publications, technical services, and other services likely to be of interest and value. To that end, ULI will exchange its associate member mailing list, on a name-for-name basis, with organizations publishing information or sponsoring events that are related primarily to real estate development and land use planning. ULI will at its sole discretion determine the acceptability of information that falls within the categories described above.
It is ULI’s policy that promotions should not be political in nature, should not solicit donations, and should not contravene ULI policies or contain information that would allow a recipient to identify the identity or sources of the list.
Can I download or forward information from ULI’s website to others?
All contents (includes logos, graphics, artwork, photos, button icons, and texts) on ULI’s website and in its publications are copyrighted and all rights are reserved. Publications cited by ULI are not available through ULI. They can be obtained from the sources listed.
This site or any portion of this site may not be reproduced, duplicated, copied, sold, resold, or otherwise exploited for any commercial purpose that is not expressly permitted by ULI.

We are committed to protecting your privacy. We use the information we collect on the site to enhance your overall member experience. We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to others—not even other members. We do exchange street mailing address lists with other nonprofit and specialty groups in the fields ULI serves for one-time use in delivering a direct mail announcement of an event, subscription offer, or publication.
