Myregion.org

Synopsis:

Myregion.org is an organization of citizens and leaders from the public, private, and institutional sectors who are working to improve the Central Florida region. The organization is led by a Board of Directors from across the Orlando metropolitan region and by an overall framework, including Goals and Objectives and Regional Priorities. Goals include organizing and training regional leaders, creating educational materials to guide regional efforts, identifying key issues and opportunities, and fostering an understanding of regionalism. ULI Orlando has been involved with myregion.org since its inception.

In May 2006, myregion.org convened more than 20 municipal mayors from seven counties in the region to discuss growth and transportation issues common to each jurisdiction. This event kicked off a year-long effort to create a unified vision of growth in the area for the next 50 years. This process engaged more than 9,000 Central Floridians through myregion.org’s extensive visioning and public participation processes. The citizens identified ways that the Central Florida region could grow and prosper given the projected doubling of our population by the year 2050. The result is the creation of four visions of future growth, which were summarized in the report, How Shall Our Region Grow? Although this effort will not have any legal authority to enforce growth regulations, it is hoped that the leaders will develop shared principles and trust that will help guide the region.
