Ave Maria: A New Concept in Master-Planned Communities

A notable project from a worldwide perspective, Ave Maria is believed to be the first contemporary town to be developed in conjunction with a university. Tom Monaghan, founder of Domino’s Pizza, dreamed of creating the first major Catholic university in the country in more than 40 years.

At the same time, the Barron Collier Companies was poised to usher in a revolutionary program in land planning, the The Rural Stewardship program. The 5,000-acre development includes a town core anchored by the Ave Maria Oratory and offers a full range of residential options and commercial services to its residents. This is a unique opportunity to listen to the story behind this revolutionary development.

Projects for Young Leaders by Young Leaders
1:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Ticket #33; $40; Lunch not included; Limit 50

This tour highlights projects worked on by ULI Young Leaders including the Royalton by Carlisle Development Group and Carrfour Supportive Housing, Beacon Lakes by Flagler Development Group and AMB, and Downtown Doral by Flagler Development Group.

The Royalton started as a historic Miami hotel and was transformed into affordable housing for the formerly homeless individuals. Built in the 1920's during downtown Miami's first real estate bubble, Royalton fell into disrepair and required 8 different funding sources including Historic Tax Credits and Low Income Housing Tax Credits for redevelopment.

Beacon Lakes is a 478-acre master planned Business Park located on one of the last major parcel(s) of undeveloped land in Miami’s thriving Airport West market presenting a unique opportunity to accommodate present needs and future expansion within a single strategically located site. The project involved moving the County's Urban Development Boundary, an extremely technical and political process.

Downtown Doral will be the most compelling master-planned, mixed-use community developed in South Florida since Coral Gables. The meticulously planned 120-acre live-work-play community will be the heart of one of Miami-Dade County’s newest cities – Doral. Downtown Doral is the in-fill, re-development of an existing office park and will include 2,800 residential units, as well as retail shops, restaurants, office buildings, a school, parks and open spaces.
