Todd W. Mansfield
Former ULI Chairman (2007-2009)
Todd W. Mansfield is the chairman of the Urban Land Institute (ULI). The Institute (www.uli.org) is a nonprofit education and research institute supported by its members. Its mission is to provide leadership in the responsible use of land and in creating and sustaining thriving communities worldwide.
Mansfield, 49, was most recently chairman of ULI’s policy and practice committee, which guides the Institute’s research and publishing agenda. Established in 1936, the Institute has more than 37,000 members worldwide representing all aspects of land use and development disciplines. Currently, there are more than 60 ULI district councils located in North America, Europe and Asia.
Mansfield is chief executive officer of Crosland Inc., a position he has held since July 1999. Headquartered in Charlotte, N.C., Crosland is one of the most prominent real estate development companies in the Southeast United States. At the company, Mansfield’s focus is directed toward the optimal investment of the company's financial capital and development of its human capital. His experience creating unique destinations has resulted in Mansfield being recognized for his place making ability.
From 1997 to 1999, he was managing director of Security Capital Group in London, where he launched and operated a private equity investment fund with a $1.5 billion equity capitalization. The fund acquired seven real estate operating companies in the parking, self-storage, office and residential sectors in Europe and Australia. Todd was a member of Security Capital's five-person operating committee, which oversaw investments in 19 private and publicity-held operating companies with a combined capitalization in excess of $20 billion.
From 1986 to 1997, he served with The Walt Disney Company as executive vice president/general manager of the Disney Development Company. There, he had operating responsibility for Disney's resort development and corporate real estate activities worldwide. In addition, he oversaw operations of The Disney Vacation Club, a vacation ownership company.
As president of Disney's Celebration Company, he led the team that planned and initiated development of the 5,000-acre Town of Celebration, which has been recognized as a leading example of traditional neighborhood development planning. Mansfield also played a leadership role in the planning and execution of Val d'Europe, the new transit-oriented town planned for 20,000 residents outside Paris, a Congress of New Urbanism Charter Award Winner.
Prior to joining Disney, Mansfield was a project manager with Hines, where he was responsible for suburban office developments in New England. He was also a management consultant with Booz Allen & Hamilton, Inc. in New York.
Mansfield is actively involved in environmental, cultural and civic organizations. He serves on the board of directors for the Carolinas HealthCare System, the Charlotte Center City Partners, and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Development Corporation. In addition, he serves on the board of visitors for the Duke Divinity School. He is former chairman of the North Carolina chapter of The Nature Conservancy and is currently serving on the Board of Trustees.
He holds a master’s degree in business administration from Harvard University and a bachelor of arts degree from Claremont McKenna College.
He is married to Kathy and they have three children.
