I am: David V. Johnson, chairman of Victor International Corporation
Bay Harbor Company.
ULI Member since: 1984.
Where I live: Clarkston (a suburb of Detroit) and Bay Harbor,
Michigan.
Favorite part of my home setting: Horse stables.
Favorite way to spend time with family: On South Fox Island in
northern Michigan, and on boating adventures in the Great Lakes and the
Caribbean.
How I unwind: Horseback riding, boating, and listening to music.
What makes me laugh: My daughter; she keeps me young.
What makes me angry: Negative emotions.
Last book I read: Good to Great, by Jim Collins.
Persons I admire most: God, Samara (my daughter), Pam (my significant
other), and my dearest friends, as they represent unwavering support and
love.
Persons I rely on most: My gifted and dedicated executive team at
Victor International and Bay Harbor.
First (salaried) job: By age 12, I was self-employed in the
lawn-mowing business!
What I do for a living now: Am creating legacy lifestyle communities
while balancing the art and science of development; I am also
continuously looking for new opportunities.
Project I’m working on now: Turtle Lake, in Bloomfield Hills
and Bay Harbor, in northern Michigan.
Project that makes me proudest: Bay Harbor. I have never been more
proud of a professional accomplishment, as it represented a strategic
alliance of the private and public sectors in the realization of a
Herculean achievement.
Professional goal yet to achieve: To continue the journey of always
giving back.
Why I would tell someone to join ULI: Being part of ULI represents
the greatest professional learning experience; it provides a real estate
insider’s perspective, both locally and globally. It is an
invaluable network and resource base.
